Mike and Barbara Mize
A Gift for Tomorrow
Mike and Barbara Mize embody the warmth, kindness, and hospitality that define Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mike’s distinctive laugh often fills the hallways, while Barbara is quick to greet friends and extend a welcoming hand to new faces.
Married in 1974, they moved to Oklahoma City in 1981, knowing only two people in the city. Barbara retired from teaching to raise their two daughters in their Heritage Hills home, while Mike worked long hours for the real estate developer of Penn Bank Tower and later with Winthrop Financial, managing properties across the country. Those early years were marked by few friends and no family nearby until a colleague suggested they visit Westminster where Rev. Mike Anderson was then senior pastor.
They joined in 1983, drawn first by the intimate classroom teachings, and over the next forty years they became deeply involved in the life of the church. Together, they have shared their time and talents on nearly every committee: Session, Trustee, Deacon, Personnel, Pastor Nominating, Sunday School, Confirmation, Youth Club, and Handbell Choir.
When asked why they chose to leave a bequest to the WPC Foundation, Mike and Barbara shared: “We are so grateful for our daughters who grew up in Westminster and are strong women of faith today. This is a community of worshippers who support one another in many ways, and we want that support to continue for future generations. Our planned estate gift is our way of saying ‘thank you.’”
